The sûrah addresses the idolaters who disregarded all the available evidence in favor of a Supreme Being, Allâh, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, darkness and light. Charging the Messenger with falsehood is a reflection of the denial of Allâh’s revelations and signs. The sûrah tells mankind that Allâh has ascribed mercy unto Himself as an attribute. It tells people that He is the supreme controlling and influencing power inherent in all His creatures. The sûrah narrates the revelation imparted to Ibrâhîm (Abraham) to use against his people’s contention. People who open their eyes can clearly see Allâh’s omnipotence featured in every process, biological and otherwise. The sûrah alludes to those generations who defied Allâh, and their bitter fate. It tells people that Allâh does not authorize superstitions, and He clearly indicates the forbidden. The People of the Book (Jews and Christians) are reproached for corrupting their Books and denying the Messenger’s mission. The sûrah treats many subjects and ends with a warning: Allâh is swift in executing the law and in effecting just retribution. And He states the good news that He is also All-Forgiving and All-Merciful. In the Name of Allâh, The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful
