Verse1

Previous         Next

1. A (alif). L (lâm). R (râ). The sûrah opens with these letters from the Arabic alphabet to draw attention to the miracle of the Qur’ân, which, though written in the people’s tongue, cannot be emulated. It is a Book whose verses are exact and precise, expressed in proper words in their proper places. It distinctly expresses all that is meant, leaving nothing merely implied, and it expounds all the laws decreed by Allâh, The All-Wise and All-Knowing.
